VELASQUEZ SIDE TABLE

Design: Herzog & de Meuron. A sculptural side table designed for The Council cigar lounge at Hotel Les Trois Rois, Basel, part of the "La Magie du Bois" collection. The base is cut in an interlocking zigzag pattern so the crown-shaped top and base can be reassembled rotated, giving the table two different heights. Made with five-axis digitally controlled milling combined with over 40 hours of hand finishing (planing, sanding, gluing, clamping), then spray-lacquered with 10 coats to a gloss finish. Solid Canaletto walnut or solid ash, seasoned and dried twice; hidden metal plate allows the top to be removed. As solid wood is hygroscopic, slight movement with humidity changes is normal.
