Marta Sala grew up inside Italian design history - her mother co-founded the legendary Azucena with architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Marta's uncle - and spent 25 years absorbing his sense of "good design" before deciding it was time to build something of her own. In 2015, after meeting architects Lazzarini & Pickering, she launched MARTA SALA ÉDITIONS: a made-to-order atelier rooted in the workshops of Brianza, where every piece is realised by hand by local craftsmen under her personal supervision. In under a decade the brand has grown into a body of more than 70 pieces, spanning collaborations with Lazzarini & Pickering, Federico Peri and Herzog & de Meuron. These are objects that carry the discipline of the Bauhaus - usefulness, beauty, form following function - while speaking a distinctly contemporary, quietly ironic language. "I consider my family heritage a treasure," Marta says, "but I refused to be caged by the glories of the past." The result is furniture built to last generations - nomadic, couture pieces equally at home in a Milan apartment, a Paris atelier or a yacht anchored off the coast.
